Customer services:

  • Shop: A small shop sells local goods, plants and postcards.
  • Tea Room/ Restaurant: Licensed Sawmill Café.
  • WC: Toilets situated adjacent to the Sawmill café.
  • Parking: Large, free car park at property.
  • Seats and benches: No picnic area. Plentiful (usually shaded), benched seating situated all around the garden. Most benches overlook a view.
  • Average visitor duration: One to two hours.
  • Accessibility - in the park/ garden from the car park: Wheelchair users are advised to bypass the garden entrance and take a tarmaced/gravelled route along the red wall to the Pergola. Access to the pergola is possible and the route affords views of the fountain court and over the pool garden, Daniel’s garden and the combe. The rest of the routes through the garden take visitors up and down slopes, often punctuated by steep and narrow steps.

Transport:

  • By road: Mapperton is signposted from Beaminster, which lies on the A3066 between Crewkerne and Bridport. The gardens are around 15 minutes away from Crewkerne and 5 minutes from Mapperton by car.
  • By train: The nearest train stations are Crewkerne and Dorchester.
  • By bus: No buses run to Mapperton.
